Sermon on the Mount Study Fall 2012 Week One

The Sermon on the Mount


1.        Read Matthew 4:12-13; 4:23 – 5:2 and 7:28-29 and answer the following questions:

a.       What is the geographical setting of this portion of the Word of God that we call the Sermon on the Mount?

 

b.      According to 5:2 and 7:28-29, what is Jesus doing?

 

2.       Context:  Let’s summarize the main subjects or events in Matthew 1-4

a.       Matthew 1


b.      Matthew 2

 
c.       Matthew 3


d.      Matthew 4

 


3.       Now read Matthew 4:12-25.  Mark in a distinctive way every reference to the kingdom, or the kingdom of heaven

Also mark the word righteousness and repent with a differing color.

 

4.       Now compare Matthew 4:17 with Matthew 3:1-2.  Who is doing what in these verses?

 

5.       Look up a definition of the word repent and record what you learn about the meaning of the word.

 

 

6.       Now let’s read Matthew 5 – 7 and mark references to kingdom and kingdom of heaven in one color and righteousness in another.
