Friendship with the World

Friendship with the World

·         Who is one of your best friends ever?  Childhood or recent.  What made them a best friend?

READ:–  James 4:4-10

How do we decide if something is Worldly?  Make a list of things you consider “worldly” below – DO SO SILENTLY and then share with one another- making a list on the board without commenting to one another about what should and should not be on the board.

What does James mean by calling his recipients “adulterers?”(Ezekiel 6:9)

Note John’s description of friendship with the world in 1 John 2:15-17:

Three things John lists that come from the world:

1)

2)

3)

Where else do you find these 3 areas of worldliness?  Research the following passages and compare them to the list in 1 John:

            Genesis 3:6

            Luke 4:1-11

What does it mean in James 4:5 that God is a Jealous God?  What does the Bible say in the following verses about the Holy Spirit indwelling within the Believer?

Acts 1:8

Acts 2:17

Acts 2:38

Acts 5:32

Romans 8:11

1 Corinthians 2:14-15

1 Corinthians 3:16

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Galatians 4:6

2 Timothy 1:14

We are a 3 part being;  Body, Soul, Spirit.  The soul and spirit are eternal – the only question is “Eternal where?”  God desires YOUR spirit to be one with His spirit!  Read and Note what you learn from Romans 8:16:

From Jeff’s sermon Sunday, and from James 4:7 describe/discuss  a person who submits to God.

Hint Reminders:      Orange Juice, 100%, Jonathan and his armor bearer

RESEARCH:

In James 4:7-10 you have a string of imperatives,  using the NASB I find 10; can you list them along with a brief explanation of what each means or it’s results?

What an amazing promise!  God will draw near to you!  According to James 4 and Psalm 24:3-4  What are the prerequisites to drawing near to God?

Jeff talked about being a 100%  disciple of Jesus on Sunday.

If you were trying to get as much liquid into a gallon container as possible and the container had rocks, stones, sand, and a brick in it…what would you need to do to accomplish your goal of getting as much liquid as possible into it?

Hmmmmmm.  Anyone want to be in charge of the final application of this lesson?
